Bunge Partnerships
In accordance with its Sustainability Policy, Bunge promotes the economic development of the regions in which it operates, while respecting the environment and acting in a socially responsible manner.

Here are some examples of how we apply our Sustainability Policy in Brazil:

• We operate in every geographic region in Brazil and comply fully with all local laws and zoning policies;

Our grain supply contracts contain unilateral rescission clause. Only farmers who comply fully with Brazil’s environmental and labor laws may supply Bunge. Bunge’s grain supply contracts contain a unilateral rescission clause. If a supplier is found to be in violation of environmental or labor laws, Bunge reserves the right to rescind its contract with that supplier. Thus, Bunge promotes legal compliance among growers in the supply chain.

We actively partner with NGOs to promote awareness among farmers in the Cerrado of the legal requirement to set aside land reserves to protect the region’s diverse and delicate ecosystem. We help our farmer/customers establish land reserves and consult with them on the best environmental, soil conservation and productivity techniques. These projects have been underway for more than four years and cover more than 200,000 hectares of farmland.

We are signatories, both individually and as a member of the Brazilian Vegetable Oil Industry Association (ABIOVE), of the Pact for the Eradication of Slave Labor in Brazil. This reflects Bunge’s commitment to not work with farmers found guilty of labor abuses.

• In line with Bunge’s Environmental Policy, our companies strive to go beyond basic legal requirements:

• We manage environmental education centers for our employees and the communities where we operate to help to promote conservation and raise awareness of environmental issues, offering workshops and courses designed to inspire and facilitate community involvement;

• Award-winning projects, such as the establishment of the Figueira Branca reserve, enable the creation of environmental refuges and promote respect for nature, keeping ecosystems intact for future generations;

• We are pioneers in ISO 14001 certification in the fertilizer sector. In addition to the expansion of our ISO programs, we actively seek to prevent pollution and minimize waste;

• We promote the concept of sustainable agriculture on farms nationwide, offering hundreds of courses, meetings and also rural extension provided by a specially trained and highly-qualified team;

• Bunge is a pioneer in implementing precision farming practices, techniques which optimize the application of fertilizers and other agricultural inputs and maximize farm economy and outputs. By increasing farm productivity, Bunge is helping to reduce the need for agricultural expansion into new areas;

• Transparency is one of our corporate values. For the development of our 2005 sustainability report in Brazil, we adopted the reporting methodology established by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). Applying this international standard enables us to set performance targets based on established benchmarks and present our achievements using common metrics that facilitate understanding and allow for comparisons with other companies;

• Bunge promotes collaboration within its industry and encourages its commercial partners, be they suppliers or customers, to adopt and promote basic principles of good corporate conduct and to support the economic development of the communities. All the units within the company:

• Favor local labor;
• Contribute to professional development institutions in the community;
• Contract and train student interns and are open to working with local educational institutions;
• Value regional centers, enabling the improvement of the infrastructure of cities in the diverse regions where the company operates;
• Invest in ports and logistics, stimulating the development of society as a whole.
